Dry or freshly roasted coffee beans in particular tend, depending on the grinder, to build up a lot of static charge, which means that a lot of coffee ends up next to the portafilter. This is particularly annoying during single-dosing when some of the beans do not end up in the portafilter. The funnel can remain on the portafilter during the dosing process.
