The leveling tool for the ground coffee in the portafilter - affectionately known in Italy as Pianacaffe. If you want to be particularly precise when tamping your espresso, you need this leveler from the traditional Italian company Motta. This is a tool with which you can perfectly level the surface of the coffee in the portafilter. So you grind the coffee fresh into your portafilter as usual - and instead of starting with the tamping, you use the leveling tool first. Place it on the portafilter and turn it clockwise.
This ensures that the ground coffee is distributed evenly and homogeneously in the portafilter. This is a perfect method to prevent channeling - the espresso simply rushes through the less compacted areas. Once this is done, you can press the ground coffee as usual with your tamper.
A good thing, very easy to use, with convincing results.
Height adjustable: the height of the tool is adjustable. Hold the upper part and turn the plate anti-clockwise. It is difficult to move, but it is possible. The plate may have traces of the lubricant used to treat the thread - the lubricant is food-grade.
